Valentine's Rose

Valentine's Rose

I often shy away from the traditional red roses of Valentine’s Day, as I think there are so many beautiful flowers coming to the fore at this time of year. However, there is just no getting away from the fact that they are synonymous with the day of romance and are here to stay. Last year we didn't have a traditional offering, but this year we do. Beautiful velvety deep red faux roses. I've added some other elements in here to create Valentine’s inspiration.

The ingredients to this arrangement are:

5 x Cerise Tea Rose (20489)

3 x Summer Burgundy Peony (20139)

2 x Red Delphinium (20143)

2 x Cineraria Eucalyptus Spray (18954)

3 x Bay Leaf Spray (18958)

2 x Pistach Bunch (18956)

2 x Wormwood Spray (19721)

1 x Ohlson Cast Antique Brass Three Leg Planter (20464)

Pot tape

Chicken wire

Method:

We had to get super creative with this one, as we built this at the January Furniture Show to make sure we met the deadline. With only pot tape to hand, I had to forego the usual chicken wire mesh I use at the bottom to secure the stems. But I would still advise you do this. If you are lacking wire, then create a tight criss-cross of tape across the top of your pot and start building from the outside towards the middle. This way your outer flowers support those on the inside.

I used a lot of foliage to flesh this arrangement out, with different textures being intertwined. I cut down the sprays so that I could make the most of the foliage, and not one big clump.

This created my nest, into which I was then able to position the flowers. I cut the delphinium, peony and berries into smaller pieces so they could be dotted around the arrangement for texture.
